“This is the best fucking city in the world,” Charly Bliss told the crowd as it started its show at Music Hall of Williamsburg on Sept. 9, and for the next 90 minutes the NYC-based band put its best foot forward in a high-energy hometown appearance. Adding to the familiarity for the band, the crowd included the parents of singer and drummer Eva and Sam Hendricks, Eva’s fiance and friends who flew in from Australia.
Influenced by the melodic grunge of the ’90s and ’00s, Charly Bliss have been compared to Weezer, one of their cited influences, and have opened for indie heroes such as Death Cab For Cutie, Wolf Parade, Sleater-Kinney and Veruca Salt.
In August, the band released its third album, “Forever.” Noting the album’s “sugar-rush choruses,” a Pitchfork review cites Letters to Cleo and the Breeders as comparisons.
