Built to Spill will release its first album since 2009 and the indie rock band’s eighth studio album since its formation in 1992.
Built to Spill’s poetically titled “Untethered Moon” is set to be released on vinyl exclusively on Record Store Day (April 18) with a random distribution of blue editions.
For those of you who have modernized your methods of musical intake, it will be released on CD and digital download on April 21. Preorders for this new album started Tuesday and include an instant download of a brand new song “Living Zoo.”
Frontman Doug Martsch and guitarist Brett Netson have been around since the synthesis of the group 22 years ago and are the only two remaining members of the original group. This album has an entirely new rhythm section (bassist Jason Albertini and drummer Steve Gere) since 2009’s “There Is No Enemy.” The band has planned a Midwest/West Coast tour, opening for Brand New and Death Cab for Cutie.
As Nylon Magazine put it, “Built to Spill have proven they are most certainly built to last.”
