DAS BLACK MILK TALKS ORIGIN STORY AND RECORDING NEW ALBUM IN TWO DAYS

Scranton’s Das Black Milk is a band that marches to the beat of its own drum machine. But the individualist nature of the group, which combines post-punk and synth rock elements, among others, gave way to some collaboration for the making of its new album, “Bones in a Daydream.” With a year’s worth of material, the trio decamped to Windmill Agency studio in nearby Mt. Cobb, where proprietor and producer Eric Ritter recorded the band, a departure from its usual DIY program.

We recently chatted with the trio of Brian Emmert (vocals, guitar, synths, electronics), Nathaniel Kane (vocals, guitars, synths, electronics) and Craig Metcho (vocals, bass) about the long writing process and short recording one and the system of underground venues and record labels that provide an outlet for outsider art in Northeastern Pennsylvania. You can watch the interview, as well as a video for the album track “Invisible Rays,” below. Listen to or purchase the album here.
