SXSW always presents a seemingly infinite number of musical choices, with official and unofficial events taking over downtown Austin and beyond. Because of that, everyone’s SX experience is unique, the only common denominators being free beer and breakfast tacos.
We kicked things off on Wednesday with Lucy Dacus, the indie singer-songwriter who seems to be everywhere this year, at Lambert’s. Then we caught New York rockers Sunflower Bean at Cedar Street Courtyard, performing songs from their second album, Twentytwo In Blue, which comes out next week.
After that we headed over to the Sidewinder to discover our first long line of the week—and then sets from Starcrawler, Liza Anne, Duckwrth, Stella Donnelly, Dermot Kennedy, G Flip and Gang of Youths.
After a quick food break, we hit the Twix House of Duos at Lustre Pearl for free candy and sets from duos (get it?) Wye Oak, Tennis and Japandroids. We wrapped up the evening at Stubb’s with August Greene, a collaboration of rapper Common and producers Robert Glasper and Karriem Riggins.
