JOSIENNE CLARKE & BEN WALKER PLAY ROCKWOOD, TIN ANGEL IN ADVANCE OF ROUGH TRADE DEBUT

British folk due Josienne Clarke & Ben Walker, the latest signing by the Rough Trade label, will play a pair of shows at Rockwood Music Hall in New York City this week in advance of its debut album for the label. “Overnight” will be released Oct. 14.

Clarke and Walker, whose music has been compared to Fairport Convention, Joni Mitchell and Fleetwood Mac, will perform at Rockwood Stage 3 on Thursday, Sept. 8, and Friday, Sept. 9, as part of the duo’s first run of North American dates (full tour dates listed below). They’ll also play at Philly’s Tin Angel on Saturday, Sept. 10.

The 12-song “Overnight” was recorded almost entirely live at Rockfield Studios in Wales.

Speaking about the album’s first single, “The Waning Crescent,” Clarke said, “I started to think about if I was the moon, what I might think and feel, and what the moon might sing back,” adding, “I’ve given it a slightly whiny, self-pitying quality because it’s whimsical and a bit funny.”

You can hear the haunting, atmospheric track below.
