AUDIO: TEGAN & SARA EMBRACE GROWING SUCCESS

By  Michael Lello

Tegan Quin never thought Tegan & Sara, the band she’s in with her twin sister, was a small band.  You can’t blame her, considering the group opened for Neil Young on their first tour.

“For us, we thought that made us relevant,” Tegan tells Highway 81 Revisited.  “We didn’t know that we were still very obscure.  We got a record deal, an agent, and we were making a living playing music.”

In advance of Tegan & Sara’s headlining show Monday, June 23 at SteelStacks in Bethlehem, we chatted with Tegan about that gradually growing success, how longtime fans have reacted to the increasingly larger profile of Tegan & Sara (last year’s album,”Heartthrob,” hit No. 3 on the charts, and they’ll again open for Katy Perry in the fall) and how the sisters don’t want to play songs their audience doesn’t want to hear.
