If there’s irony in stuffing our faces with brisket and sausage on the way to the Brooklyn Vegan day party, it didn’t occur to us at the time. After fueling up, we made a quick stop at the Mohawk to catch Ron Gallo before settling in for the afternoon at Cheer Up Charlie’s for BV.
It was a packed day with sets from Ezra Furman, Idles, Men I Trust, Flasher, Okkervil River, Common Holly, Girl Ray, Speedy Ortiz and U.S. Girls.
After a quick break, we were back at the Mohawk for two artists getting a lot of buzz this year: British singer-songwriter Jade Bird and 16-year-old pop newcomer Billie Eilish.
Then it was over to Barracuda, where we caught sets from Joey Dosik, Cut Worms, The Weather Station and Marlon Williams, before the evening’s highlights of Courtney Marie Andrews and Durand Jones and the Indications.
