While rumors of an impending Oasis reunion swirled Tuesday on the Internet, the announcement that came Wednesday morning was newsworthy, albeit disappointing to fans who bought into the hype: the band will re-release its first three albums: “Definitely Maybe,” “(What’s The Story) Morning Glory” and “Be Here Now.” Each rerelease will be remastered and feature bonus content, including rare and unreleased recordings, according to a press release, and will be available in various formats.
The first in the “Chasing The Sun” series, as Big Brother Records is calling it, will be “Definitely Maybe,” set for a May 20 street date. The band’s 1993 “Demos” cassette is also available “for a limited time only” and only through www.oasis.net. Additionally, for Record Store Day on Saturday April 19, Big Brother will release a limited edition remastered replica of Oasis’s debut 12-inch single “Supersonic” on heavyweight vinyl.
Highlights of the bonus content include: Previously unheard live acoustic versions of “Live Forever” and “Shakermaker” from a Paris instore gig around the time of the release of “Definitely Maybe”; “Half The World Away” (Live, Tokyo Hotel Room): an early and intimate version of this Oasis classic, recorded in Noel Gallagher’s hotel room in Toyko in 1994 by Mark Coyle; “Strange Thing” (Demo) from the Original 1993 “Demos” cassette; “Sad Song” (Live at Manchester Academy) a previously unheard recording; “Whatever” (Strings): recorded on a portable cassette machine at Maison Rouge Studios by Mark Coil.
