Sandwiched between a highly anticipated opening set for Spoon at Central Park Summerstage and the Oct. 9 release of its fourth album, NYC quintet Bodega came to Elsewhere Rooftop last week for another hometown show.
For the first time in its 10-year career, the band recorded outside of New York and headed to Leeds, England, to make “All Inside Aquarium,” which will be released on Chrysalis, to track in a deconsecrated church.
Despite its reputation as a post-punk group, the goal for the LP, says Bodega’s Ben Hozie, was: “Let’s go back to melodic tunes, let’s be more of a proper rock band.” Sonically, the band aimed for “this late ‘80s/early ‘90s Stone Roses-meets-Jane’s Addiction thing, with more riffing and guitar solos.”
A first single, “Pick Up The Check,” was released in May, followed by the title track and video.
