Tune-Yards, on the eve of the release of its new album “Better Dreaming,” performed at Night Club 101 on the East Village on Thursday, May 15.
The album is the sixth for the long-running Oakland-based project of Merrill Garbus and Nate Brenner. “Making art in this day and age for me is a battle for focus; we’re in an age of interruption,” Garbus said in a press release.
Tune-Yards’ second album, 2011’s “WHOKILL,” put it on the indie-rock map with glowing reviews and high placement on several influential year-end lists. The band has also worked on film scores and compositions, including for the the film “Sorry to Bother You,” the series “I’m A Virgo” and the upcoming film “I Love Boosters.”
Next up for Tune-Yards is a run of west coast dates beginning June 11. The band will also perform at the XPoNential Festival in Camden, N.J., on Sept. 20.
