It’s only been five months since Kevin Morby released “Singing Saw,” his third solo album, but on Monday he shared a new non-album single, “Tiny Fires,” which you can hear below.
Morby, who launched his solo career following his membership in Woods and The Babies, recorded “Tiny Fires” in Los Angeles, shortly after he completed “Singing Saw.” Unlike the album, the new song, released on Dead Oceans, features Morby with members of his current live band — including Meg Duffy on slide guitar and bass and Justin Sullivan on drums. “Tiny Fires,” which Morby says “is from the same brain” as the album, is released as a “digital 7-inch” backed with a solo acoustic demo of the song which he recorded in his bedroom in the Mount Washington neighborhood of Los Angeles.
Below the stream, you can click through to our 2013 review of Morby’s first solo album, “Harlem River,” and view his upcoming tour dates (no northeastern dates on the books right now, unfortunately, but if you’re in L.A., you can see him open for Wilco on Tuesday).
