The Weight, a group featuring former members of The Band and various Band-associated groups, will perform at City Winery in New York on Thursday, July 28.
Here’s a rundown of the members of The Weight:
Jim Weider (guitar, vocals) was a member of the post-Robbie Robertson incarnation of The Band and recorded with them on “Jericho,” “Jubilation” and “High on The Hog” and toured with the group until it closed up shop.
Randy Ciarlante (drums, vocals) shared drumming and vocal duties alongside Levon Helm in The Band and was with The Band for more than a decade. He played on “Jericho,” “Jubilation” and “High on the Hog” and various tours.
Brian Mitchell (piano, organ, accordion, harmonica, vocals) was a member of The Levon Helm Band and also played with heavyweights including Bob Dylan, Al Green and BB King.
Marty Grebb (organ, piano, accordion, sax, vocals) wrote and recorded on “Jericho” and played on “Jubilation” as well. He also worked with original members of The Band, Rick Danko, Richard Manuel and Garth Hudson, on various projects. His touring credits include Eric Clapton, Bonnie Raitt and Gregg Allman.
Albert Rogers (bass/vocals) is a longtime associate of Weider and has also played with Helm, Hudson, Albert Lee, Jim Quick and Grayson Hugh.
