Odd pairings often lead to sublime moments. At the very least, the first part of that equation will be at play Friday, when indie electronica act STRFKR will visit a surprising venue: theRiver Street Jazz Café, a room that primarily hosts jam bands.
The Portland, Ore., quartet is touring behind its recently released sophomore album“Reptilians” and just played several shows at SXSW, where it was, according to a band press release, “an unfortunate victim of excessive police force, spending one of the last nights in jail after trying to unload their van outside their venue.” Frontman Josh Hodges has called the new record “happy music about death”; he wrote “Reptilians” in the wake of his grandmother’s passing.
