“Say Yes! A Tribute to Elliott Smith” will be released worldwide on Oct. 14. The 15-song album includes performances by Tanya Donelly, Julien Baker, Amanda Palmer, J Mascis, Lou Barlow, Yuck, Waxahatchee and more. Besides Hatfield’s take on “Needle In The Hay,” which appeared on a Wes Anderson tribute, all songs are brand new and exclusive to “Say Yes!” (Full track listing below)
The album, which will be released on American Laundromat Records, will be available on CD, vinyl and digitally, and a limited run of cassettes were manufactured for Cassette Store Day on Oct. 8.
Of her contribution, which you can hear below, Donelly, of Throwing Muses, Breeders and Belly fame, said, “I was very happy that ‘Between The Bars’ hadn’t been grabbed yet, because it’s my favorite Elliott song. I love each perfect sentence. Raw, gorgeous, heartbreaking love song.”
Additional tracks have been previewed earlier this year, including Julien Baker’s “Ballad of Big Nothing” on Entertainment Weekly and Yuck’s “Bled White” on Consequence of Sound.
Elliott Smith died at age 34 in 2003. He was working on his sixth album, “From a Basement on the Hill,” which was released the following year.
