Before taking the stage at last month’s Susquehanna Breakdown for a lively performance that featured some festival highlights, including an instrumental mash-up of Pink Floyd’s “Fearless” and Elton John’s “Bennie and the Jets,” Marco Benevento sat for an interview with Highway 81 Revisited.
The experimental, genre-jumping piano player and bandleader chatted with us about his upcoming studio album, set for a September release. We also learned about his record label, The Royal Potato Family, which boast an equally eclectic roster of artists, including Stanton Moore, Mike Dillon, American Babies, Garage A Troi and Neil Casal. We also learned how the label got its name. Hint: Blame Bob Dylan.
Benevento and his band — bassist Dave Dreiwitz (Ween) and Andrew Borger (Tom Waits, Norah Jones, Ani DiFranco) — returns to the region this Thursday, June 12, for a show at Ardmore Music Hall.
