Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Billy Gibbons, of ZZ Top fame, brought his Billy F Gibbons and the BFG Band to the FM Kirby Center in Wilkes-Barre on Feb. 19. The guitarist and vocalist’s setlists have focused on ZZ Top classics like “Jesus Just Left Chicago,” “La Grange” and “Sharp Dressed Man,” as well as deep cuts and some cover tunes.
The BFG Band features drummer Chris “Whipper” Layton, known for his work in the legendary Double Trouble with Stevie Ray Vaughan, as well as The Arc Angels and Kenny Wayne Shepherd. On Hammond B3 organ, Mike “The Drifter” Flanigin is a major player on the Texas blues scene and has played with standouts such as Jimmie Vaughan.
Gibbons and the BFG Band’s tour winds through the south this week before a show at the Beacon Theatre on March 5. ZZ Top will then begin a tour on March 22 in Amarillo, Texas, that will take it all the way through August, with various US and European dates. There are no dates in the Northeast as of press time.
