UK’s KILLER QUEEN CONTINUES THE LEGACY OF FREDDIE MERCURY AND BELOVED BAND

More than 30 years since the death of larger-than-life lead singer Freddie Mercuy, the band Queen is as popular as ever. Adele, the self-proclaimed “biggest Queen fan ever,” said “they’re the kind of band that’s just in your DNA.” Lady Gaga has called them her biggest inspiration and took her name from their song “Radio Ga Ga.” The group continues to tour (first with Paul Rodgers, now with Adam Lambert), and the 2018 film “Bohemian Rhapsody” has broadened the band’s audience and pop culture presence.

Since 1993, the UK-based tribute band Killer Queen has been part of the phenomenon. With singer Patrick Myers in full costume and makeup, bearing an uncanny sonic and physical likeness to Mercury, Killer Queen is now playing — and selling out — many of the venues where Queen did the same, such as Red Rocks, where they’ll return in July.

In advance of Killer Queen’s Wednesday, March 29 performance at the Scranton Cultural Center, Myers joined us on a video call to discuss the origins of Killer Queen, the challenges and thrills of portraying Mercury and why the legend of Queen continues to take flight.
