If indie rock is sometimes guilty of taking itself too seriously, it’s not We Are Scientists’ fault. With danceable beats and lyrics that poke fun at themselves and the scene at large, the New York band is at it again with a humorous video for the song “Contact High,” which will be featured on “Huffy,” a new album set for an Oct. 8 release, their first since 2018’s “Megaplex.”
We recently chatted with singer and guitarist Keith Murray about how he’s spent the COVID-19 lockdown in Florida, the band’s early-oughts, indie-boom experience on Virgin Records and what fans can expect when it gets back on stage Tuesday, Aug. 10 at Elsewhere Rooftop in Brooklyn.
