The Weight Band, a group that carries on the tradition of The Band, performed Thursday night at Musikfest Cafe in Bethlehem, Pa. The Woodstock-based band is led by guitarist Jim Weider, a member of the latter-day lineup of The Band, the Levon Helm Band and The Midnight Ramble Band and also features keyboardist Brian Mitchell (Levon Helm’s Midnight Ramble Band), bassist Albert Rogers (Jim Weider Band, Jimmy Vivino), drummer Michael Bram (Jason Mraz) and keyboardist Matt Zeiner (Dickey Betts).

The Weight Band’s tour dates pick up April 7 in St. Louis and swing south before some more Northeast dates, including Friday, April 29 at the Count Basie Theater in Red Bank, N.J., Saturday, April 30 at the Colonial Theater in Phoenixville, Pa., and Tuesday, May 5, at City Winery Hudson Valley. The group will host its annual Camp Cripple Creel at the Full Moon Resort in Big Indian in the Catskills in June.

The Weight Band recently released its second studio album, “Shines Like Gold.” You can read our review of last year’s “Acoustic Live” album here and our 2014 interview with Weider here (note: The Weight Band’s lineup has changed since that interview.)
