The second annual Steamtown Music Awards will take place at The V Spot (906 Providence Road, Scranton, Pa.) on Sept. 17, returning to the location of last year’s event. An important change for many attendees: The V Spot will be non-smoking the night of the ceremony.
The SMAs have also revealed that this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award recipient will be Bret Alexander, a Northeastern Pa.-based songwriter, musician and producer known as a founding member of The Badlees, The Cellarbirds and his current band, Gentleman East. Since 1999, Alexander has been operating the Saturation Acres recording studio, where he has produced albums for a wide range of artists, including the multi-platinum-selling hard rock band Breaking Benjamin.
Additionally, the SMAs will hold an Announcement Party on July 22 at Franklin’s (53 Public Square, Wilkes-Barre, Pa.). The free event will begin at 6:30 p.m and include performances by Esta Coda, Skip Monday, Mock Sun and Strawberry Jam. SMA organizers will announce the performers that have been nominated in each category of the 2015 awards.
