Rachel Lucille Woodworth, who usually performs solo as LittleStarRun, will have an opportunity to fully share the “soundscapes I have in my head” when LSR debuts a new band lineup at Karl Hall in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., on Friday, Nov. 9. Friday’s all-female-fronted bill also includes fellow NEPA artists The Charming Beards and Kali Ma & The Garland of Arms as well as Philadelphia’s Kate Dressed Up, playing its first NEPA show.
Joining indie dream folk singer-songwriter Woodworth in LSR will be Chelsea Taylor on keyboards (A Fire With Friends, Doghouse Charlie, Pity Party) and Justin Padro on drums (Justin Padro Jazz Trio, The ODDmen, The HIMALAYAS).
Woodworth, a NEPA native who lived in Greece for 13 years, says seeing the legendary shoegaze band Ride perform in Europe had a big influence on her sonic approach. “I’m not completely there yet, but I’m really happy with the sound,” she says.
Woodworth met Taylor through the local music scene, with the two crossing paths at women’s musical performance nights put on by Jess Meoni in Scranton and Wilkes-Barre. And she says her first conversations with Padro, whom she just met over the summer, were about music, “so we figured, let’s try it.”
At Friday’s show, LittleStarRun will perform a version of “Wilting,” a single released in 2016, which will display the fleshed-out sound of the studio recording as opposed to the stripped-down versions Woodworth has played at her solo acoustic shows.
“Wilting” will be included on LittleStarRun’s debut album, “The Heist,” which Woodworth says will be released in the spring.
“The material [on ‘The Heist’] is sort of a combination between two continents; my life has been between two continents, between Europe and America,” she shares. “I was living in Grece for a long time, and insane life changes catapulted be back to the U.S. from Greece. It’s definitely about that transition and the tumultuous emotions.”
Kate Dressed Up / Little Star Run / Kali Ma & The Garland of Arms / The Charming Beards will perform Friday, Nov. 9, at Karl Hall (57B N. Main St., Wilkes-Barre, Pa., 18702. Doors 7:30 p.m., show 8 p.m. All ages, BYOB.
