DEL SUR STREAM DEBUT EP ‘H.A.G.S.’ (EXCLUSIVE)

Even the most geographically challenged among us know it’s quite a trek to get from Philadelphia to Southern California, but Yardley, Pa.’s Michael Collier, fronting his recording project Del Sur, managed to do it — at least in spirit — without leaving Southeastern Pennsylvania. Next week Del Sur releases its debut EP, “H.A.G.S.,” a collection of dreamy, surf-y pop songs he “recorded between between [his] junior and senior years of high school with pals Connor Watts (bass) and Alex Previty of Triathalon (mixing & mastering),” according to WXPN’s The Key. You can stream the entire EP exclusively at Highway 81 Revisited in advance of its Feb. 24 release.

The 6-song EP (which will be available on cassette and digital formats via Rough Beast Records), provides a lilting, tropical respite from the icy weather battering us here in the East Coast, with appropriately sun-drenched song titles like “Lifeguards” and “The Tide Is Coming In.” Del Sur’s lo-fi approach, with vocals layered just out of reach, create a compelling dynamic with trilled guitars and bongos that evoke images both wistful and hopeful.
