Car Seat Headrest made its network TV debut on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” Thursday night, performing “Fill in the Blank” from “Teens of Denial,” the Will Toldeo-led project’s latest album, released in May.
Toledo released 11 albums on his own via Bandcamp before signing with Matador Records last year and releasing his label debut, “Teens of Style,” a compilation.

With Teens of Denial, his first real “studio” album with an actual band, Toledo moves from bedroom pop to something approaching classic-rock grandeur and huge (if detailed and personal) narrative ambitions, with nods to the Jonathan Richmond, Wire, and William Onyeabor.
Car Seat Headrest’s tour dates include Sept. 3 and 4 at Philadelphia’s Made in America festival and sold-out shows at Bowery Ballroom on Sept. 15 and 16.
